A Vinyl Floor that Performs at Cale View Care Home

The new Iperform 70 collection has been used for a practical floor that sets a homely atmosphere for residents of Wincanton’s Cale View care home.

The new Iperform 70 collection has been used for a practical floor that sets a homely atmosphere for residents of Wincanton’s Cale View care home.

Representing an investment of some £10m by Cornerstone Healthcare, Cale View is a purpose-built home in Wincanton that provides specialist NHS and Somerset County Council funded accommodation for a range of primary care needs. Cale View has 74 bedrooms spread over three floors and IVC Commercial’s Iperform 70 provides a durable and practical floor finish throughout.

Across some 3,000m2 of space including bedrooms, corridors, reception and communal areas, Iperform 70 delivers a hardwearing, water-resistant and easy to maintain floor. Providing long-lasting looks thanks to the new Performance Barrier that improves strength and compatibility with adhesives and subfloors, Iperform 70 is IVC Commercial’s high-performance heterogeneous vinyl solution. It is also equipped with Hyperguard+ for better resistance to scratches and stains, has no plank joints to harbour dirt and comes with anti-bacterial Sanitec treatment.

Installed by Designer Flooring Cardiff, the floor replaced an existing specification that was not available in time. Hywel Davies, owner, Designer Flooring Cardiff, says: “IVC Commercial was able to match the technical performance of the specified floor and in a time that met our schedule. With some 60 rolls needed to complete the installation, we were also able to use a local distributor for just in time delivery to help us manage the site”.

Cornerstone Healthcare chose the warm and rustic wood plank look of Tavel T30, using the same design throughout the home for a welcoming natural look. The laying direction of the floor has been altered to help residents understand and navigate the building.

But it wasn’t all plain sailing for the installation. The main contractor, Markey Construction, had taken over from a previous contractor and the building had remained empty for several months. This vacant period and failure to remove the laitance from the anhydrite screed had caused moisture to remain in the slab. Extensive remedial works were needed before Iperform 70 could be installed.

“We had to grind back the entire floor and then carry a six layer process, including primer and leveller, before the subfloor was ready for Iperform 70 and the underfloor heating used throughout,’ explains Hywel Davies.

Proving that practicality and durability doesn’t have to compromise floor design, Iperform 70 is now ready to welcome residents when Cale View care home opens this March.
