Care homes and health care settings must follow the procedures set out within Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, HSE ACoP L8, HSG 274 and HTM 04-01 all of which provide clear guidance on management of Legionella.

Care homes and healthcare settings carry the highest risk for Legionnaires’ disease due to the heightened vulnerability of the residents and patients. The over 50s and the infirm account for over 80% of all cases of Legionnaires’ disease which is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia.
