Rights for Residents
Diane Mayhew, Campaign Manager at Care Rights UK, is one of the co founders of the grass roots campaign group, Rights for Residents. Now part of the charity 'Care Rights UK,' she continues to campaign in earnest for Gloria's Law (the essential care supporter bill) that would guarantee all of us have a legal right to at least one essential care supporter, in all circumstances. Having been personally affected by the harsh restrictions placed on care homes and hospitals during lock down, Diane believes the ONLY way to ensure people will never again experience being cut off from their closest relative or friend, is if Gloria's Law is enshrined in primary legislation. Guidance is simply not enough to protect our human rights during a further pandemic or national emergency. The support provided by the person with whom you have a shared personal history, is not an optional extra, it is vital and equally as imperative as the care provided by staff. During the pandemic, many gave up the will to live as a result of feeling completely abandoned by those they loved and this must never happen again. Risks should always be balanced and the right to a family life protected in law.
