Michael Wilkes-Spellman
Dementia and Mental Wellbeing Lead,
The ExtraCare Charitable Trust
Michael has been with the ExtraCare Charitable Trust for the last 13 years, during which he has overseen the organisation's Dementia Strategies and the operational running of our Dementia and Mental Wellbeing service. This service first launched in ExtraCare in 2007 as the ground breaking Enriched Opportunities Programme, a new approach to dementia care in housing. In the last couple of years Michael's focus has been to better incorporate mental health and wellbeing support for our residents and address topics such as bereavement, loneliness and suicide. Michael has a background in counselling and psychotherapy and is currently piloting a counselling service within ExtraCare aimed at supporting residents living with dementia in addition to general mental wellbeing.
